bio
Like Louis Armstrong, Marc believes that all music can be categorized as "either good or bad and if it is bad there is no need to mess with it".
And like Louis Armstrong, Marc comes to his love for music naturally, from age ten he started (on his brother's guitar) - self taught with a love for rock and roll. Ten years passed with Marc playing in various rock and roll bands. It was then at age 20 that Marc began to study classical guitar. Quickly learning that he was way behind in the techniques needed to master "serious guitar music", he took up the enormous challenge of essentially relearning how to play. Through some tough and long days of practice he found that he ended up being pretty good at the classical approach.
Later, Marc was able to win music scholarships as he studied at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and later at East Carolina University under the direction of acclaimed guitarist Dr. Elliot Frank, where he received his Master's Degree in guitar performance.
Marc released a CD of solo classical guitar music in 2002, entitled 416 S Front. "Superb guitar mastery..." “A sound space that surrounds and envelopes you...” The Beat Magazine
From soup to nuts you never know what to expect when you attend a guitar performance of Marc's, you might be impressed at his virtuosic flamenco stylings, or get moved by a great interpretation of the master JS Bach, or feel funky with his solo guitar arrangements of great contemporary musicians such as Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, Nora Jones and even the Bee Gees or watch and listen again as Marc switches gears and plays some classic Chick Corea, Miles Davis and Duke Ellington. Come prepared to enjoy the guitar in all its various modes and subtleties.
Marc continues an active performance schedule appearing as a featured solo artist and in his ecclectic groups. He has created an in depth jazz history webpage where he also offers lessons. He is also a contributor to Just Jazz Guitar Magazine the only publication focused exclusively on jazz guitar in the world.
When he is not performing Marc likes to keep the musical fires burning in the minds of students of all ages. He has been gifted with many guitar students over the years, and has even sent a select few forward to follow thier love of music in the storied halls of academe.
Currently, Marc holds the position of Professor of Music at Cape Fear Community College where he teaches Jazz History, Class Music, Applied Guitar Class and coaches the Jazz Ensembles and he also teaches private lessons in Wilmington, NC.
All the while Marc indulges his love for music in performance with over 150 dates a year. For Marc his experience with the guitar has always been good.
After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music. Aldous Huxley (1894-1963)
